This article reports the results of comparative studying of the essential oil content, its component structure and total content of polyphenols, tannins and flavonoids in raw material samples of two varieties and one natural population of Thymus serpyllum L. The re-sults showed that raw material samples contained relatively high phenol compound levels of 5-7% (up to 6,98%). At the same time very low total tannins have been established. Total polyphenols varied from 3,89% at ‘Picantny’ up to 6,56% at ‘Purpurnovioletovy’. To-tal flavonoid amount varied from ½ to ¼ in the sum of polyphenols. The results of the essential oil component composition studying al-low to assume, that VILAR sample definitely belongs to the Thymus serpyllum L., while the ‘Picantny’ variety has possibly hybrid origin.
