The plants The plants Ocimum basilicum L. were cultivated for 4 weeks under phytotron conditions in the aquatic culture with the illumination by fluorescent lamps with intensity of 50 μmol photons / m2•sec (light units − LU), then changed the lighting to LED lamps with an intensity of 300 LU , 550 LU and 1350 LU. After 21 days of exposure, the mass of plants, the water content and pigments (chlorophylls, carotenoids and anthocyanins) in the leaves were measured. It was shown that at the illumination intensity of 300 LU and 550 LU basil plants had optimal values for the aerial mass, water content and chlorophyll in the leaves. Exposure of plants to light with an intensity of 1350 LU led to a significant increase in the content of anthocyanins and carotenoids in the leaves indicating excessive light and a protective role of these pigments under light stress.
