The article presents summarized domestic and foreign experience of preclinical studies of potential gastroprotective biologically active substances (BAS). We suggest the most expedient approaches to search and development of BAS proposed for treatment of gastrointestinal disorders using models of gastric and duodenal erosive-ulcerative lesions, caused by nonsteroid anti-inflammatory preparations (NPVP) and necrotizing agents. These approaches take into account the main requirements to preclinical studies of therapeutic agents.
