The influence of Lycopus europaeus L. dry extract having thyroid action on male and female rats the generative function is studying. It is
shown that the studied extract when administered to stomach males for 60 days and females for 15 days at doses of 50, 250 and 750
mg/kg (maximum – 125-fold therapeutic dose) before mating with intact animals had no damaging effect on the ability of male fertilization
and female conception, but it causes inhibition of thyroid function. An administration of Lycopus dry extract to male and female rats at
the same time did not increase an embrionic mortality and did no effect on body weight, survival and physical development of newborn
rats.
The 60 days old offsprings were born by female rats and were gotten the studied extract before mating with intact males did
have an inhibition of thyroid function, in contrast to infant rats, which were obtained after mating intact females with experimental
males, who had not the foregoing effect.
Thus, Lycopus dry extract has no toxic effect on the generative function of rats, but it gives them a hypotrophy of the thyroid gland.
The offsprings were born from the experimental female rats also did have inhibition of the thyroid gland, in this connection, the prescription
of the studied extract for women of reproductive age should be carried out taking into account the criterion of «profit-risk».
