A brief overview on the medico-biological and toxicological studies of the alkaloids produced in VILAR after 1970 is presented. The results of naturally plant alkaloids study of the benzylisoquinoline series, and biogenetically related compounds of the aporphine, protoberberine, benzo[c]phenanthridine series, and of their derivatives are presented. The natural phytodrugs produced on their basis used in medicine and the prospects of their use are also discussed. The studied benzylisoquinoline alkaloids are installed in different degrees of severity the following pharmacological properties: antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, anticholinesterase, sedative, choleretic and others.
