THE MORPHOFUNCTIONAL EVALUATION OF THE NEUROPROTECTIVE EFFECT OF THE PLANT REMEDY IN THE EXPERIMENTAL HYPOTHYREOSIS

The objective of the present paper was the morphofunctional estimation of the neuroprotective effect of complex phytoremedy “Tireoton” (Potentilla alba L., Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, Rhodiola rosea L.) in the experimental hypothyreosis. The study was car-ried out on the albino Wistar rats. The hypothyreosis was induced by an oral injection of merkazolil (10 mg/kg). An aqueous solution of «Tireoton» was intragastrically administrated to the experimental animals for 21 days. On histological preparations of cerebral cortex stained according to Nissl', the number of cells different by their structure, namely, normochromic, strongly hyperchromic and hypo-chomic and cell-shadows were counted to assess the degree of the neuron damage. Succinate dehydrogenase activity was estimated in 100 neurons on micropreparatios stained by tetrazolium blue (according to Nahlas). It has been found that «Tireoton» decreases the number of hyperchromic neurons in 1.7 times, the number of neurons with total chromatolysis and cell-shadows averagely de-creases by 27‒28%, while the number of normochromic neurons was increased by 47%. SDG activity was 2-fold higher in the rats re-ceived «Tireoton» compared to the control and ranged 0.041-0.07 conditional units of optical density. Thus, «Tireoton» shows a pronounced neuroprotective effect in the experimental hypothyreosis normalizing cell SDG activity and preventing the formation of dystrophically changed and regressive types of cerebral cortex neurons in white rats.
