The molecular mechanisms for providing basic biological functions and metabolism of the essential trace elements (TE) such as iron and zinc are examined. The possibility of their mutual influence on the formation of TE imbalance and the development of patho-logical conditions is shown. It is shown that the relationship between zinc and iron in the supplements using for the prevention and treatment of iron- and zinc-deficient states is still controversial and requires further study.
