THE INVESTIGATION OF AN ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF SATUREJA SUBDENTATA BOISS. GROWING IN MOUNTAIN DAGHESTAN

The work presents the data on the antioxidant activity of native and introduced populations of aromatic plant Satureja subdentata Boiss., gathered in the mountain Daghestan. The work was performed in two experimental gardens of MBG DagSC along altitude gradient of 1100 and 1650 meters above a sea level, which simulate the conditions of a mountain and valley and a high mountain climatic zones, correspondingly. The analysis of the total antioxidant capacity was made by an amperometrical method in an apparatus “Color Yauza 01-AA” in ethanolic extracts obtained from the aerial part of plant. Gallic acid was used as a reference standard. The apparatus was calibrated by the gallic acid standard, against which the signals of studied extract were compared. The results of the comparison for antioxidant activity in native populations show a decreasing the total antioxidants regardless of collecting year and growing zone. The results of investigations revealed the trends towards increasing the total antioxidants content in the hypsometrically higher areas (1730 compared with 1100 meters above sea level) and the structure of those interpopulation accumulation variability. The obtained results provide a scientific basis for the optimum growing conditions, when bringing under cultivation, in the dependence on a population origin and the height above the sea level of the cultivation area. The introduction of Satureja subdentata Boiss allows broadening a variety of aromatic perennials. In Inner Mountain Daghestan, the aerial part of S. subdentatais used as aromatic and medicinal plant. The species is frost-resistant, unpretentious, and has a pleasant aroma.
