It was conducted comparative studies of human head hair after treatment with a solutions of spirits and formaldehyde, used in the formulation of therapeutic agents for diseases of the head skin and hair. The object of the research was the hair from the heads of people of the European race, as well as keratin, extracted from these hairs. After treating the hair with various reagents, the total content of sulfur and water, sorption capacity for water vapor and the stability of the hair structure to 0.1n NaOH were determined. Treatment of a solution of formaldehyde and ethanol improves the chemical re-sistance of the hair. The protein yield in 0.1 n NaOH is reduced. Results of electrophoresis showed that keratin, extracted from the hair after treatment with 4% formaldehyde solution, occurs the fragmentation of polypeptide chains along with the processes of "stitching". Treatment with a solution of different spirits causes a change of ability of moisture absorption of the hair: monoatomic spirit (ethanol) increases, but polyatomic (glycerol) reduces the moisture content of the hair.
