The herb of Lomatogonium carinthiacum (Wulfen) A.Br. (tibetan name shumchutig ta ) was used as a choleretic agent in the practice of Tibetan medicine in Buryatia. Previously the choleretic effect of L. carinthiacum dry extract were established. The purpose of this work is to develop a method of standardization of L. carinthiacum herb concerning the content of the main groups of active substances. Flavonoids and xanthones are the main active substances contributing to the choleretic effect of L. carinthiacum herb. It has been established that the absorption maximum at 400 nm in the differential spectrum of ethanolic extract of L. carinthiacum with the addition of aluminum chloride coincides with the analogous spectrum of a standard sample of luteolin. UV spectrum of L. carinthiacum ethanolic extract purified on a column with polyamide coincides with the spectrum of swertiaperenin at 328 nm. The choice of swertiaperenin as a reference sample is justified by the fact that this compound is a part of chemotaxonomic markers - xanthones for plants of Gentianaceae family, which are characterized by 1,3,7,8-substitution, and swertiaperenin has better solubility in ethanol as compared to other xanthones isolated from L. carinthiacum herb. Also, the determina-tion of the quantitative content of flavonoids in terms of luteolin and xanthones in terms of swertiaperenin in one extract is advisable in order to save rea-gents, raw materials, and working time. It has been established that double extraction of L. carinthiacum herb crushed to a particle size of 0.5-1.0 mm with 70% ethanol in a boiling water bath for 105 minutes (the first extraction for 60 minutes and the second - 45 minutes) provides the most complete yield of flavonoids (1.03-1.46% in terms of luteolin) and xanthones (0.48-0.68% in terms of swertiaperenin). The methods are validated, the relative error of the method for the determination of flavonoids does not exceed 1.62%, xanthones - 1.39%. The content of the sum of flavonoids in L. carinthiacum herb is normalized - not less than 1.0%, the sum of xanthones - not less than 0.4% taking into account the data obtained for samples of raw materials collected in different regions of Buryatia.
