In the present study, biochemical abnormalities occurring in the body of children with cancer in sepsis, as well as their relationship with the new marker of sepsis and phagocytosis by presepsin, are considered. The purpose of this work is to identify clinically significant biochemical disorders in cancer patients with sepsis and to establish the nature of the relationship between them and the sepsis marker presepsin. A survey of 112 patients aged from 3 to 18 years who were treated at the N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology. Differences in medians of a number of biochemical parameters in groups of patients who survived and died of sepsis were revealed. In addition, strong correlations were established between presepsin levels and total, direct bilirubin, urea, GGT, iron (r = 0.77, 0.79, 0.64, 0.65, and 0.59, respectively), and therefore. The article discusses the literature data on the possible complications of sepsis with hemophagocytic syndrome. The strong direct correlation between the association of presepsin and general and direct bilirubin, as well as iron, suggests that sepsis is accompanied by hemophagocytic syndrome, which is confirmed by literature data on the general pathophysiological mechanisms of phagocytic syndrome and sepsis.
